As an example, you may think you need a golf club that requires a four degree upright lie angle, (to learn more about lie angles go here) when in actuality you are swinging the golf club "over the top" which is forcing the golf club to be "toe down" at impact.  If you choose the upright lie angle golf club to accommodate your over the top swing path you will be doomed to repeat the "over the top" golf swing path.
